It will take a path along the banks of the Corrib between Wolfe Tone Bridge and the Salmon Weir Bridge. Your guide is Dr Jackie Uí Chionna, a social and cultural historian with a particular interest in the history of Galway and its historic built environment.
The interface of sea, river, canal and lake makes for a fascinating tour. From medieval times to the present, the waterways have influenced the form of the built environment of Galway; in 1820 alone, the Corrib was used to power over 23 mills erected along its banks.
Nowadays the river and waterways provide invaluable amenity to the citizens of Galway.
